Biography

Over the decades, Rochester native, Steve Sidare, has produced a body of work capturing nature and all of the life it exudes. Using his palette to create textural landscapes, his work documents the seasons and conveys an inspiring peacefulness. Beautiful, pleasing paintings of lighthouses, trees, forests, flowers, and skies all communicate a sense of reaching greater heights, and the artist's uplifting message is unmistakable.

He comments: "I lean toward more classic subjects that have a sense of place, endearment, and that depict the different moods that subjects have to offer. I want my art to be somewhat contemplative, to be easy to connect with. I want it to invoke strength, inspiration, happiness, relaxation, ... or even invigoration; to inspire people and infuse them with the beauty and pleasure that is intrinsic to all life. I want to bring life's 'Treasures and Pleasures' into people's homes."

Steve Sidare is drawn to watercolors because of their special illuminating quality. His use of color, texture and shape are his main tools to deliver his messages. He is mostly self-taught but has attended workshops from such local artists as Paul Taylor, Paul Martin and Wendy Gwirtzman. His main guidance for composing his art is Edgar Whitney's “Elements and Principles of Design”. These form his technical know-how and the basis of his approach.  All the rest is Study, Observation and Practice.

Steve has given solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group shows which have won him a multitude of awards. He has membership in 4 local groups - 2 of which are plein air groups - and is a Signature member of the Rochester Art Club. Doing both studio and outdoor work helps him, he claims,
enjoy a wider gamut of expression.
